Puss is older now, dealing with the fact that he’s on his last life, and the whole thing gets surprisingly deep. The animation is gorgeous too – like watching a storybook come to life.

Why The Last Wish Changed Everything
The 2011 movie was fine. It did its job, gave us some backstory, introduced Kitty Softpaws, and had some decent laughs. But The Last Wish? That movie is something else entirely.
They took this character who used to be comic relief and gave him real depth. Watching Puss have panic attacks and genuinely fear death was not what anyone expected from a kids’ movie about a cartoon cat. And the Wolf – that villain is legitimately terrifying.
The whole thing feels like a completely different level of storytelling. Plus, Perrito is probably the most adorable sidekick character in recent memory.
What About That Netflix Show?
There’s also “The Adventures of Puss in Boots” on Netflix – six seasons of it, actually. It ran from 2015 to 2018 and does its own thing in some town called San Lorenzo. It’s decent background watching if you want more Puss content, but it’s not essential. The animation style is different, and it doesn’t really connect to the movies.

The Last Wish got moved from Netflix to Peacock earlier this year, which was a bummer for a lot of people. The original Puss movie keeps jumping between different streaming services like it’s playing hot potato.
